Halifax Bomber

Members of the Parish Council attend a commemorative service at South Kyme Golf Club to remember the crew members of Royal Canadian Air Force Halifax Bomber.

On Wednesday, 28 May, representatives of South Kyme Parish Council attended a commemorative service at South Kyme Golf Club. The memorial which is devoted to the crew of Halifax Bomber LK954 NA/E from 428 (Ghost) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force, crashed on 3rd November 1943 due to enemy fire. All eight crew members, who had departed from RAF Middleton-St-George on a bombing mission over Düsseldorf, perished in the crash.

Padre LT(N) Warren Clapham led the service, and wreaths were laid by both family members who had travelled from Canada and military representatives of the UK and Canada. The ceremony, enhanced by the performance of the RAF band, lent an emotional and respectful tone to the day. The Golf Club organised an excellent event to commemorate those who had lost their lives and it was much appreciated by the families.
